The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has assumed management and control of six airports in the region from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

In a statement Wednesday, Minister Paisalin Tago of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC-BARMM), said BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim received the documents from CAAP Intelligence and Investigation Division chief retired Brig. Gen. Dionisio Robles during a ceremony here Tuesday.

The six airports now under BARMM supervision are the Awang Airport in Maguindanao del Norte; Sanga-Sanga and Mapun Airports in Tawi-Tawi; smaller airports in Malabang and Wao, both in Lanao del Sur; and the Jolo Airport in Sulu.

Tago admitted his office is facing a huge challenge with the airports now under BARMM control.

“This development will show that we in BARMM can manage effectively and efficiently these vital infrastructures and government services,” he said.

Robles expressed confidence that BARMM will efficiently manage the airports as one of the agents for development across the region. (PNA)
