The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) has delivered 95 percent of the 68,800 bags of certified seeds allocated for Antique for the wet season.

Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Rice Program coordinator Hanna Lindo said in an interview on Tuesday that they already released to 18 municipalities the 65,055 bags of certified inbred rice seeds under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Seed Component Program as of May 28.

The delivery started in February as part of the prepositioning of materials for the wet season.

Currently, farmers are waiting for sufficient water supply from the National Irrigation Administration to start planting.

“Of the 65,055 bags of certified inbred rice seeds delivered, 50,663 were already distributed to the farmers,” she said in an interview.

The planting materials will benefit 10,909 farmers registered with the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture and will cover 8,751.06 hectares of rice farms in the province. (PNA)
