The National Housing Authority (NHA) turned over 104 housing units to qualified government employees and overseas Filipino workers at the MassKara Village Government Employee Housing Project (GEHP) in Purok Badiang, Barangay Sum-ag here on Tuesday.

The ceremonial turnover of keys to the beneficiaries was led by NHA 6 (Western Visayas) manager Rizalino Cabahug and Negros Occidental district manager Claire De Lune Villanueva, in the presence of Mayor Greg Gasataya.

“We are now here. This project was initiated and made a reality by a lot of sectors. We will support this project; there is no reason why this will not be successful. To the homeowners, please treasure this project,” Gasataya said in his message.

The housing project was named after the highly urbanized city’s world-renowned MassKara Festival.

The beneficiaries, led by homeowners’ association president Clemente Espina, accepted the MassKara Village GEHP housing units.

Each fully finished duplex-type unit, which has a 60-square-meter floor area and an 80-square-meter lot area, features two bedrooms, two toilet-and-bath units, a living area, dining and kitchen area, and an open area for a garage.

The house and lot package costs PHP1.9 million under the NHA in-house financing scheme, and PHP2.2 million under the Pag-IBIG Fund mortgage take-out (MTO).

The 104 units are part of the 500-unit socialized housing development, spanning 7.3 hectares, designed to provide affordable and accessible homeownership for qualified beneficiaries.

The 200 units can be acquired through the NHA in-house financing, and the 300 units through the Pag-IBIG Fund MTO.

Cabahug said the total project cost for the 500 units is PHP1.04 billion, inclusive of adjustments for Pag-IBIG financing and inflation. (PNA)
