The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has thanked a non-government organization for its donation of more than 800 dressed chickens to internally-displaced persons (IDPs) in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental who were affected by the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon.

In a statement Tuesday, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said this assistance helped restore a sense of normalcy in evacuation centers by allowing evacuees to enjoy regular meals.

“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to ARISE Philippines for your donation to support the internally displaced persons in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, affected by the volcanic eruption. This contribution has provided vital food assistance to evacuees, helping to bring a sense of normalcy to those enduring difficult times in evacuation centers,” he said.

Nepomuceno added the partnership between ARISE Philippines and the OCD has proven invaluable in their collective efforts to respond to disasters.

“Thank you for being a beacon of hope and resilience for the people of Canlaon City,” he said.

ARISE Philippines is a local network of the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE), which is led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The donation was facilitated through Savemore’s San Carlos City branch, ensuring that this much-needed assistance reached those in need.

This was initiated by Nepomuceno, who personally reached out to ARISE Philippines to request assistance for the eruption victims.

He visited Negros Island last week to oversee and evaluate the ongoing response operations. The OCD, along with various partners, continues to work diligently to address the needs of the affected population.

The OCD chief said these contributions from private organizations significantly enhance the capacity to provide essential aid and support to those in distress. (PNA)
