Pasig City’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) active cases went down from 2,248 to 360 in almost seven weeks.
In his social media accounts, Mayor Vico Sotto on Saturday shared an infographic of the city’s Covid-19 cases monitoring report which saw a huge difference between two recorded data tabulated on August 31 and October 16.
Pasig City reported a total of 2,284 active cases of Covid-19 from the 4,472 confirmed cases, 2,007 recoveries, and 181 deaths on Aug. 31.
With the city government’s intensified efforts against the pandemic, Pasig City recorded a total of 360 active cases from 7,474 confirmed cases on Oct. 16 and tallied some 6,797 recoveries and 317 deaths.
Sotto, however, warned the public not to be complacent even if Covid-19 cases have gone down.
“Pero mas lalo pa tayong mag-ingat para tuluyan nang bumaba ang bilang ng kaso ng Covid (We must be even more careful so that the number of Covid cases continues to decrease),” Sotto said.
“We will continue to improve our response every day until this pandemic ends,” he added.
Sotto said winning the battle against the dreaded virus is a team effort among the local government units (LGUs) within the National Capital Region (NCR).
“Kung mapapansin natin, halos magkasabay lang ang trend ng Covid sa 17 LGU ng NCR (If we notice, Covid’s trend is almost the same among NCR’s 17 LGUs). The cities are too interconnected, so policies and actions must be well coordinated with each other. Kaya team effort talaga ito (So this is really a team effort), he said.
Pasig’s Covid-19 response
The Pasig government has recently rolled out developments on its various responses to halt the spread of Covid-29 infection within the city which include the implementation of the Pasig health monitor, an online-based and custom-made health information management system, and PasigPass via quick response (QR) code system, a contact tracing solution.
It also deployed additional contract tracers and established a flexible blended learning system through the provision of some 77,000 tablets for elementary pupils, 63,000 tablets for high school students, and 5,220 laptops for its public school teachers.
The city government also provided free internet access for public school students and teachers to help them as they embrace the new normal in the education system.
Since the onset of the health crisis, the city government has been providing free shuttle services and Covid-19 tests to front-liners and residents.
It also imposed strict health and social distancing guidelines for the city’s business establishments, and a barangay coding scheme in the public wet market and other public establishments.
It also pushed for the strict observance of minimum health standards within public transportation, distributed food, and financial assistance, and established a molecular laboratory for Covid-19.
On the other hand, some 130 new contact tracers from the Department of the Interior and Local Government will be deployed in Pasig in a bid to boost the city’s contact tracing efforts.
The city’s newly built 60-seat contact tracing and operations center is now functional as it started navigating the city’s contact tracing system. (PNA)
