The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Antique is nearing its target for the Step 2 registration for the national identification system with 202,555 already listed out of the 222,250 target.

“We now have an accomplishment of 91.14 percent,” PSA Antique officer-in-charge Randy Tacogdoy said in an interview Wednesday.

Despite the suspension of registrations in the municipalities due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat, they are glad they were still able to attain such an accomplishment.

“Of the 18 towns in the province, only the municipalities of Caluya, Libertad, and Anini-y did not have registration suspension,” he said.

He said the three municipalities pushed through with the registration considering their zero to low occurrence of Covid-19 infections.

“We encourage the public to avail of the still ongoing registrations in their municipalities so that they don’t have to go to the PSA Antique provincial office later on,” Tacogdoy said.

He added that registration for San Jose de Buenavista that started on Feb. 23 will end at Robinsons Mall Antique on May 20 and on May 26 at the Delegate Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School.

“Other municipalities will also end their municipal registrations on May 31,” he said.

Registrants just have to bring any of their identification cards, original birth certificate, or barangay certification.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrolment in schools, and opening of bank accounts.

It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions. (PNA)
